Cheaper Home Batteries Program (federal)
Open- What it is
- An upfront discount of around 30% on the cost of a home battery (5 kWh to 100 kWh), given as small-scale technology certificates (STCs). Your installer takes it off the price you pay.
- Who’s eligible
- Households, businesses and community organisations adding a battery to new or existing solar. The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list and fitted by an accredited installer.
- How much
- Depends on the battery’s usable capacity and the install date. For installs from 1 May to 31 December 2026 the STC factor is 6.8 per kWh (5.7 from January 2027). It applies in full to the first 14 kWh, 60% from 14 to 28 kWh and 15% from 28 to 50 kWh. Nothing is paid above 50 kWh. The discount steps down every six months to 2030. We show the dollar value on your written quote.
- Paperwork
- We trade your STCs on your behalf through some of Australia’s largest aggregators and clearing houses, to get you the best value. The exact discount is shown on your written quote.
