Cheaper Home Batteries Program (federal)

Open
What it is
An upfront discount of around 30% on the cost of a home battery (5 kWh to 100 kWh), given as small-scale technology certificates (STCs). Your installer takes it off the price you pay.
Who’s eligible
Households, businesses and community organisations adding a battery to new or existing solar. The battery must be on the Clean Energy Council approved list and fitted by an accredited installer.
How much
Depends on the battery’s usable capacity and the install date. For installs from 1 May to 31 December 2026 the STC factor is 6.8 per kWh (5.7 from January 2027). It applies in full to the first 14 kWh, 60% from 14 to 28 kWh and 15% from 28 to 50 kWh. Nothing is paid above 50 kWh. The discount steps down every six months to 2030. We show the dollar value on your written quote.
Paperwork
We trade your STCs on your behalf through some of Australia’s largest aggregators and clearing houses, to get you the best value. The exact discount is shown on your written quote.

Solar STCs: small-scale solar (up to 100 kW)

Open
What it is
Small-scale technology certificates (STCs) under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). They are taken off the price of an eligible rooftop solar system.
Who’s eligible
Homes, businesses and community groups with an eligible solar system of up to 100 kW, using approved components and an accredited installer.
How much
The number of STCs depends on the system size, your postcode zone and the install year. The deeming period shortens each year: 5 years for 2026 installs, 4 for 2027, down to 1 for 2030, when the scheme ends. We show the dollar value on your written quote.

Feed-in tariff: Synergy DEBS

Current rates
What it is
The credit Synergy pays you for solar power you send to the grid under its Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS).
Who’s eligible
Synergy customers with a solar or battery system connected to the network. Horizon Power customers are on different arrangements.
How much

Solar STCs: mid-scale solar (100 kW up to 1 MW)

New: installs from 1 Oct 2026
What it is
From 1 October 2026 the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) covers eligible solar PV up to 1 MW, up from 100 kW. Eligible systems can claim small-scale technology certificates (STCs) as an upfront benefit.
Who’s eligible
Businesses and other owners of solar PV between 100 kW and 1 MW installed on or after 1 October 2026. It needs Clean Energy Council listed components, an accredited installer, and proof of planning approvals and network connection. You can choose STCs or Renewable Electricity Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates, but not both for the same period. For extensions, only the added capacity counts. Related systems on the same site count toward the 1 MW limit.
How much
A fixed 5-year deeming period applies through to 2030, rather than the shrinking period for systems up to 100 kW. We show the estimated dollar value on your written quote. Applications to create STCs for mid-scale systems are expected to open in mid to late November 2026.

Above 1 MW
Systems over 1 MW are outside the SRES. Large-scale certificates (LGCs) apply instead. Talk to us about the pathway for a larger project.
